Top Tips for Lahaina

1.Look into renting a car as soon as you arrive, you can rent them for as little as a couple of hundred dollars a month and they are vital for shopping, airport runs and trips to Hana etc!1

3.Check out down by the Sheraton hotel for jobs as there are plenty of shops and restaurants.1

4.Dont beleive what the travel companies tell u about only having to wait 2 days after uarrive in the country to apply for your socia scurity number, its rubbish, u have to be in the counrty at least 10days before they will even take ur application and then its at least another 2 weeks until u get thenumbe(if ur lucky!) so make sure u have enough money to last u at last a month including the depsoit for your house.1

5.Dont stay with a guy called PAT CALKINS how lives just across from the Wharf Cinema centre(the main centre in Lahiana). he is dodgy and every year takes in J1er's and rips them off. the place is filthy but cheap which is why we took it and he had nothing but hassle for the whole summer with him giving out about loud music and parties, which there werent many of, the rent is dirt cheap but the place was infested with insects . and he has a smelly oul dog called Blue that was infected with fleas and he used to sit out the back garden and pick the fleas off him everyday when wewere having our breakfast, disgusting. 1

6.we found it very had to find jobs, try all the local newspapers. me and all the girls lived with ended up working as cleaners in The Westin Ocean Villas in Ka'anapalli, we only worked Sat and Sunday and got $10 an hour. it was enough for us to live off cos our rent was so cheap. and we also had the whole week free to go to the beach or do what we wanted, it was brilliant. there horrible to work for but the money was ok and the hour were great so it worked fine for the 7 of us. 1

9.partyin!? start early, don't finish overly late!! locals hate noise after like 12 or 1 at night, but love seein ya have a good time any time before that!1

10.Make sure you go camping in Hana it is fantastic! Also check out the sunrise from the top of Haleakala. It's very cold up there though so bring some warm clothes!0

11.There are loads of American students working in Lahaina for the summer, they are a great resource for getting your sorted on the island and they have some good parties too!0
